Ernest Gordon / Afors vase with unusual numbering...
« on: May 14, 2018, 01:08:32 PM »
Took a while to track down the designer/manufacturer of this vase because of the unfamiliar numbering to the base. Turns out it's model # GS 1121 by Ernest Gordon for Afors, one of a series of vases with doughnut-type depressions engraved with fantastically demented sun faces.

Does the numbering mean anything to anyone? Nothing corresponds with the model number, or anything else I've seen of signed Afors glass.

First some pictures for you !

Secondly, I have the other two, and my Ernest Gordon collection is nearing completion, so if you want to sell it please drop me an email.

Thirdly, I have seen a few with birthdates engraved, but usually also the piece code.

another possibility might be a museums reference code, but id be disappointed if they were engraving the exhibits !

Regards

Gareth

I have nothing to add but greetings to Nic and Gareth  ;D
And a hello to Jonas who I haven't met yet. :)
And a lot of drool over my keyboard. I've been watching this but staying quiet.
It got too much. ;D
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Thanks Jonas, Gareth - I don't think I've ever run into birthdates on Swedish glass before, so I've learned something new.

They're definitely a fun series of vases, though. Will drop you an email shortly, Gareth.

Hi Sue!  ;D

These really are stunning and special pieces, and just one small set existing makes them a bit of a rarity.

It's reminding me of the Bjorn Weckstrom foot goblets. I have one of them, the unsigned one. (I can't remember if there are a total of 5 or 6)
Robbo has all the others. He let me have the one I do because he's kind and it lacked a signature. ;)
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

The previous owner of my vase thought it was Bjorn Wiinblad, almost understandably, and wanted a Bjorn Wiinblad price for it...

But who could resist the allure of the completely unhinged face carved into it? Not me!

Oh, Gareth, I seem to not have your email address (I think I've changed computers since we last corresponded), so if you can drop me a message...

I've a funny feeling I could not have resisted it either.
Something like that forces you to smile whether you want to or not, and to own something that cheers you up daily is not to be sniffed at.
