Large Mdina Bowl??
« on: May 15, 2018, 05:11:41 PM »
I wonder if any of the Mdina experts on the board can advise me if this really is a Mdina bowl?  That was my first and only thought so far.
The colours look right to me, but maybe not the 'pattern' and the base doesn't look like any Mdina I've seen and it looks very new.  I don't own it (yet!) so not sure about dimensions but maybe about 35 cm diameter, 14" or so.
Many thanks, Iain
Iain

Not Mdina, confident about that. Got a funny feeling it is not WMF either, although that was my first impression. If that base is ground and not polished I would be thinking far east.

I was thinking not Mdina but quite possibly WMF.
I do have my "worm" plate, which for years i did beleive was Mdina, but Rocco told me was WMF (with catalogue number).
I've just got it out and the base is finished off in pretty much the same way as this is.
A matte base, with an irregullar shiney centre which seems to have "fingerprints" on it, but they're part of the glass.
It is also deeper than any other Mdina charger or wide bowl I've seen, as this piece seems to be.
Rocco said my worm plate dates to 1938.

Thanks for your speedy responses.  I can see the resemblance to WMF pieces.  If I get lucky at the auction I'll investigate more.

Someone thinks highly of this bowl as it has just sold at auction for £150 - alas not to me.  So maybe not far east then . . . . . ;D
