Blue opaline mould blown vase
« on: June 07, 2018, 03:00:26 PM »
Blue opaline vase (I hope opaline is the right expression, it is lightly translucent showing a golden hue when held against the light).
Appr. 15 cm high, snapped off pontil mark (something I have never seen before with mould blown pieces). Quite wonky  ;D

My gut feeling is that it could be quite old. And French. But I may be totally wrong...

Thanks for any help, and sorry for the crappy pics.

Yes opalescent, I had similar gut feelings with this vase (which shared all those features)...

Thank you John!

Mine looks much more opaque, only with very strong backlight it becomes translucent.

It's been hot worked when it came out of the mould, hence the snapped off pontil mark

Thank you Christine!

Any idea about the age of my vase?
I have found similar pieces on the net, described as 1820-30, 1850, 1880,...
So at least 19th century seems likely?

Michael, there is some interesting information here on this doc.  You need to scroll down to see the blue piece - to page 8
