Antique Cobalt Blue Thing(??)
« on: February 20, 2019, 11:14:24 AM »
Hi,

I got this a few weeks ago in a lot with some early 19th/late 18th century glasses. finger bowls, wine glass rinsers etc but not been able to work out what this is for or if simply a decorative item? Doesn't look like it has ever had a stopper and you wouldn't get much inside the shallow circular base for it to be a scent bottle or the like(?)

It is approx 10 cm / 4 inches high and 8.5 cm / 3.25 inches diameter

Any help greatly appreciated as always!

Best,

Adam

I have seen similar small pieces described as specimen vase's although no information other than that i suppose it could be used as a perfume also.

hi thanks for the reply, any specimen / bud vases I have seen are usually thin straight or tapering never saw one in a baluster shape so I don't think it's one of those and scent bottle would be strange as there is very little room in it to keep scent also there is no sign of it ever having a stopper

i did think about that but it thought otherwise as most candle stick holders are solid and this is made like a bottle or vase to contain something there is residue from liquid inside at the bottom
