Glass Bowl RD 684000. ID = Holborn glass works ltd
« on: March 15, 2019, 07:49:17 AM »
Hi,

I was wondering if anybody knows who registered 684000 please?

My books stop before then, I can't find it online and it's not in the gallery.  :-\

It's quite large, 8.5" diameter across the top and just over 2.5" tall.

Thanks.

Lindsey you can request a lookup if you want to know more about the registration - Paul S has kindly offered to do them when he pops along to the National Archives. To make a request go here and add the details: https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,52152.0.html

Registration date 6 July 1921.

LinzH, may I have your permission to add copies of the photos to the GMB RD database, please?

Thanks Anne

Would there be much information on the registration document relevant to the company, or just the design registered?  For example, name of company representative or just the company name?

The little I have found today is that the company was incorporated in 1920 and was dissolved before 1932.  ::)

What I find intriguing is that Edward Moore & Co was based on West Holborn in South Shields and went out of business 1913 (being operated at that time by his widow and son).  Yet some accounts state that they struggled on into the 1920's.  I'm wondering if there is confusion between the two companies, or if Holborn Glass Works may have been a downsizing and rebranding exercise, especially as the general consensus seems to be that Edward Moore & Co was the last pressed glass manufacturer in South Shields.

There's certainly no comparison on size of the business premises.  Tyne Flint Glass Works was situated next to the dock and King Street, as it was at the time, was a mixture of commercial and residential properties.  Number 70 is currently a shoe shop.  :-\

It tends to vary, sometimes it gives the agent details as well as the maker and address, but it will also usually have drawings of the design. The look up is free though, so it might add something.
