Could this be Nuutajarvi Notsjo or Iittala?
« on: October 21, 2019, 10:06:46 AM »
Hello, I am trying to find some information on this butter dish and the design looks very similar to Nuutajarvi Notsjo or Iittala but I can't be sure as there isn't a signature or mark.
Can anyone identify this and age it?

Thank you very much.

Hello and welcome.  Would you be able to add a picture of the base one of the whole piece from the side to show the profile?  Is it just two pieces - base and lid? And could you give some measurements please.  I'm not getting a Scandinavian vibe, but the additional information might help with an attribution.

Thanks

Hi, oh yes I should have thought about measurements etc.
Yes it is just the two pieces, base and lid.

Length: 20cm
Width: 13cm
Height: 9cm

Is this picture clear enough?  There aren't any markings, that I can see.

Does this show enough of the profile or would a whole be better?

Another possibilty is Cascade (England). They made some Iittala designs under license, one being this one with the raised dots.
I think true Iittala has some teardrop shaped dots rather than "all round" dots.  ???
Cascade items are generally blue or amber. They made amber and blue Gulvases under license too.

I'd rule out Nuutajarvi. Their normal very high quality is just not there in the pressing.

Welcome to the board, echojust.  :)

Thank you chopin-liszt. I will look into that further. I'm so close I can feel it ;)

Thanks for the hint about the photos, it took me an age to figure out how to make them smaller in size.

I'd look at Rindskopf as they made patterns with these moulded bumps in the thirties. In fact the design looks 1920s-30s to me, possibly inspired by Lalique's 'Tokyo', 'Nippon' and 'Meudon' patterns (see also Jobling's 2595 pattern).

I believe Rindskopf made a Meudon lookalike vase which also features similar concentric rings of bumps in the base:

We do have a whole area for help with things like resizing and posting images.  :)

But you have done a wonderful job of taking the images, and you've resized and posted them directly - which is very much appreciated. We can see the dish really well from your photos. Thank-you.  :)

Thank you so much.  I will have a more thorough search on these when I can.  Really helpful.
I'm very impressed by all of your knowledge.

Thank you chopin-liszt, I try to help as quickly as I can, it is me asking for help after all ;)
So many posts to look at and read but I feel myself falling down the beautiful glass post wormhole.
