Is this a thing? Otto Brauer Gulvvase lamp?
« on: January 09, 2020, 06:37:47 PM »
Searching for information regarding this amazing Gulvvase lamp I have.  Not sure if it was a prototype or one off.  It doesn't look like a DIY.  Has anyone come across this before?  I've searched everywhere and I can't find anything regarding this in a lamp version.

Thank you!!

Sandra

Hi and welcome!  :)

Has the bottle itself been altered in any way? Is the rim intact under the disc on top of it?
Is there a hole cut into the bottom or side, to let cables through?
Or is it a load of stuff added to an intact bottle?
If it's stuff added to it, it is more likely to be a DIY job. Sometimes, people can do a very good job of DIY.

Hello
Do you mean generally not as lamp? There I found this

http://deerbe.com/unt/83568-60er_kastrup_stehlampe_gulvase_leuchte_lampe_lamp_vintage_danish_otto_brauer.html

https://picclick.de/Holmegaard-Gul-Vase-Otto-Brauer-Michael-Bang-Kastrup-263477362168.html#&gid=1&pid=1

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Tischlampe-XXL-GUL-Lamp-Holmegaard-Denmark-Otto-Brauer-Mid-Century-/133015972590

And on Pinterest I saw your lamp in green with the same metal foot like yours, unfortunately I can‘t copy the link😢

These lamps are mor often with the opaline glass, these are later made during the time of Michael Bang for Holmegaard, the clear green and blue versions I think are the early Otto Brauer lamps

This all looks original.  It appears to have the cord going thru the lamp.

 ;D
It would appear others have found the information you were after. 8)

I would have asked how well the hole in the bottom had been cut - it isn't the easiest of jobs to do well and looking at how well that was done, might have indicated whether or not it was DIY.
But, no need for that now. :) Thank-you for checking and for the extra pic showing the cable inside.
It all helps to confirm what the others have said. :)

I don't think it was a lamp when it left the factory, but it could easily have been made into one professionally by a separate, third-party company. It wasn't uncommon for (often quite small) lighting, metalwork or woodwork companies to buy in glass vases (or decanters, candle shades, glass slabs, etc...) from quite good companies for other uses in the 1960s-70s. Over the years I've had a couple of Grønland vases that have been converted with lovely sculpted teak and rosewood parts - one even had the original third-party label, but that was several dead computers ago so I don't have a record of it.

That the Gulvvaser turns up with a few different fittings and mounts would indicate a number of third-party companies were doing this.
