Large Bohemian Decanters for the Persian Market.
« on: January 19, 2020, 12:42:24 PM »
Hi everybody,

I have bought 2 very beautiful decanters last week, and finally received them yesterday.
I have a couple of questions about the value and the glass itself...

______________
To my knowledge, these decanters were made in Bohemia, in the second half (or late) 19th Century.
Approximately around 1880. They were made for the Persian/Islamic market.

I know it's quite rare to find a pair. I believe mine indeed àre a pair. The paintwork matches, and also the "cut-work"
(is that a word?:P) is exactly the same, and decorated the same way. The only difference is that one of the "caps" is a
cm larger.

Height:  52 cm / 20,47 inch.

VALUE
I'm wondering about the value of these decanters. I have found a couple of examples on Christies and LiveAuctioneers.
See the links below. They are all sold between $ 3000 - $ 5000.

1)https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/31068434_near-pair-19th-c-vaseline-glass-bohemian-decanters
2)https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/31068594_pair-19th-c-bohemian-vaseline-glass-decanters
3)https://www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot/a-pair-of-bohemian-persian-market-lime-5762425-details.aspx

Then there are 2 sets of overlay decanters, of which one is bejwelled.
Suddenly these are + $ 15.000. Do these prices make sense?
4)https://www.mayfairgallery.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=bohemian+decanters

I'm just wondering what the value would be these days.
I'm thinking about offering them for arround $ 3600.
Would that be realistic?

Thank you very much in advance!!

Kind regards,
Dutch999Antiques

Why do I always have issues with placing pictures here haha :p

By the way, maybe these decanters contain uranium glass, but I don't have a blacklight right now.

Nice and almost certainly unranium glass but we don't offer valuations here. They are too subjective

Thank you very much for your response.
I have already raised the price after finding a couple of more auction results.

The 2 that came closest to mine were probably these:
1)  https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/31068434_near-pair-19th-c-vaseline-glass-bohemian-decanters
2)  https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/33464722_large-pair-of-bohemian-glass-decanters

And another different, but beautiful pair:
3)  https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/28564084_pr-antique-bohemian-cut-glass-decanters

Add some more pictures of mine as well. Here they look more yellow than greenish.
