Walther & Sohne Mary.
« on: March 22, 2020, 11:02:39 AM »
I'm not absolutely sure if these pieces all go together. The 18cm. candlesticks are definitely Walther Mary and the tray appears to match examples on GTS. I bought the tray and ring holder together and they match but the ring holder is different from the ones on GTS, although it does seem to match the set better. Is it a variant? Anne, you can use the photos if you wish to.

Thanks Nev. The ringholder doesn't appear in the Walther catalogue in either design, so I'm a bit stumped. The one on the GTS website is the one most usually seen with the Mary pots, trays, and candlesticks, but that's not to say either of them are actually Mary pattern. Confusing, isn't it?!  ::)   ;D

It certainly is. I'll keep looking to see if my pieces come from a different set.

Having had another look at this it's almost as if there are two separate sets. The flangeless candlesticks and pots on GTS are quite bit different to the catalogue images, which seem to be the only images of the Mary pattern available. There are also I think only three images of other sets (garniturs) in the catalogues and no images of the Mary trays or ring holders of either type.

The tray and ring holder are the same as mystery set No. 82. That pot in that set has been likened to Sindorf Neckar but is said to be slightly different.

To further complicate things I found online a photo of some blue Mary 42687 candlesticks in a set. I think the photo is copyrighted so can't reproduce it but it was on Google under "vintage glass trinket trays". I have attached a photo of a pot and mismatched lid which is the same as the ones in the set and I think may be a pattern 36454, but can't be sure as the catalogue image is a bit basic.
