Lens pattern pressed glass cake platter - ID please

Comport / cake stand (I always thought a comport was the thing you used to plug your mouse into before PS/2 and USB ports came along!).  Lens design.  Clear glass platter on a pedestal of base metal.  28.5 cm D, 7 cm H.  Very heavy and impressive.  No marks.

What a cracker Chris!  I ove cakestands too . :) I'm afraid I can't help with ID but was interested to see the term, "lens pattern", I've had a few bits with this sort of pattern and never know quite how to describe it! Is this the accepted terminology.

Did you know that the word lens comes from the greek for lentil? So anything that is shaped like a lentil can be described as lens shaped!

I do think that lens cut has a nicer sound than lentil cut....

Lentil pattern?  Nah, I can't see it catching on... :-)

Marcus (Le Casson) used the word "lenses" when referring to a Czech vase I posted.  I've heard/read it elsewhere, since.

The cake stand really is quite a monster.

Just came in from a car boot, where I found a few other lens pattern items, except none quite matches.  I'll have a root around for a few days and see if I can find any info.

Nothing over a quid and most things for much less.  I'm so glad that not many people appear to like pressed glass at the mo'.  :-)

Hi,
In French "lentille", so whilst lentils may do bad things to you, lens cutting/moulding, c'est bon.
regards,
Marcus
