Two Antique shop Glass Vases. ID Please.
« on: October 21, 2021, 02:13:21 PM »
Hi.
I am sorry I have not been around for a while what with Covid and suffering from Crohn's disease things have been at best a little difficult.
Anyway now I am mobile I found a little Antique shop and spotted three glass vases that I bought for a tenner, I thought not bad for the first time out for a while.
First one (not pictured) was a small Monart, easy enough to ID myself as I have a few of these.
The first in the photo is a stunning (in my opinion) Green and bright Orange vase, this is layered glass the edge shows a White third layer.
On the base is a ground pontil.
The vase stands 6 inches tall and is fairly heavy for it's size.
Second I thought was a Nazeing glass bowl but the raised rough pontil on the base has thrown me off a little because other Nazeing glass I have had in the past tend to have a ground pontil.
Your help as always is greatly appreciated.
Joe.
PS
Typed with a sore arm from the Covid booster.

Your "Nazeing" is Monart, I believe. (I might even suspect Salvador myself - he had a way of making oranges all soft like this, very often in combination with this sort of again, very soft veil-like clear blobby background) Another possibility would be an exceptionally good bit of Vasart.

I love your other bit but am clueless.
Would you be kind enough to start another thread for one of these?
Each piece of glass deserves its own thread, and it can make the talk get complicated if it's about two different things illustrated in the same place.
Glad to hear you are able to get out and about a little, despite everything.  :)
I'm still in solitary and it's unlikely to ever change.  :'(
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Hi, Sue.
I never suspected it could be Monart, it's nothing like any I have seen before.
Yes I can start another thread.
I am so sorry you are still in solitary.
But I send you my love and best wishes and I hope you keep well.
Joe.

It is really fairly typical of Monart. I have relatives who collect it, I've seen and handled a lot. I really like this "soft" appearance, it whispers lovely things to me.

You've got the little ground "button" on the base, there.

It took me years to work out the backgound is clear blobs of glass on white enamel powders. I was so used to seeing blobs of colour on a contrasting ground.  ;D
Thanks for the kind wishes.  :)
Difficult underlying medical conditions have just been made far more difficult. Pleased to hear you at least have a diagnosis and presumably some sort of assistance, if not actual help.   :)
And that you did get out and on the hunt, with some considerable success. ;D
