Mystery Bowl
« on: September 06, 2006, 02:39:24 PM »
I bought this today and have never come across a piece quite like it. A shallow bowl or possibly an underplate for a finger bowl. Lots of age wear the the base rim and a rough pontil. The gold is really very striking, but take a look at the picture of the base which is a work of art in itself.

My first thought was Salviati, but the underside makes me think more Fratelli Toso. Any comments or ideas.

I think I like the underside better than the top.... more architectural.

No help in attribution though
Thank you very much!

Hi Paul,
The design does look more Fratelli Toso to me. You can see this more on the very larger centerpieces with claw feet. They usually look like big boats, cased over white.
I do have to say that there are some newer pieces, and designs, like the Yalos Casa that are similar.
