Hi,

I bought this bowl today:

Bowl
Base

I wondered if it may be Sklo Union - the base looks ok, and the texture *looks* related to some of Vizner's designers  :?: (possibly the general shape too :?: )

Many thanks for any ideas!

Hi Robbo,
This is unlikely to be Sklo Union, though I can see why it might be mistaken as such.

Possible candidates are Walther, and one of the Polish companies, that made a pattern called "Asteroid". Name escapes me but I'll get back to you.

Regards,

Marcus

Thanks Marcus -

I must admit, I'm not sure if the colouring is original, it does flake off with a fingernail!

Ahhh I saw one in a charity shop in Grange the other day... no marks as far as I could see, but identical looking item complete with coloured dots. Probably from memory about 5" diameter (saucer/teaplate size) and about 4" tall?
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Thanks Max & Anne -
At least I know to stop picking at it now!
Anne, that is the approx. size.
It's not a bad little bowl - the mould lines are very well disguised. I think it's a three part mould. On mine you can just see two of the lines, very faintly, on the rim.

It's funny how things like this always seem to appear in multiples, it must be the charity shop glass breeding thing. Hopefully not on the same scale as Ravenshead Siesta. I think every shop I go in has that! :o

Hi Robbo,
It has taken over a year, but.......the bowl of yours, is, as I thought, not Sklo Union.
This is a pattern known, or at least marketed in the UK as, "Aztec", a candy dish, and a boxed example clearly states "Made in GDR" (the former East Germany). Manufacturer is still unknown at this time, though VLG Lausitz is a serious possibility.

Marcus

Asteroid was something that cropped up years ago, when I was trying to get the vase with in- and out- round lumps identified.
It was Ivo mentioned it at the time, it was this stuff that was being referred to, and I seem to remember it was Walther.

....Ivo??

"Asteroid" was Zabkowice, and designed by the Drosts.

Thank-you, Marcus.

 If this bowl is Aztec, what does Asteroid look like?  :spls: I've thought this was Asteroid for years!
