Here is another item with a puzzle attached. The bottom says Sípek - but first of all,  if it is a Borek Sipek design I would expect the accents to be correct.  Instead of the Czech "upside down circonflexe", there is an accent aigüe over the S, and an accent grave over the i.
Secondly, the piece is a geometric funfair of circles, squares and octagonal shapes, which is not something I associate with Sipek designs.
Could this be earlier work for VSL? It weighs several kilos, the diameter is 20cm/ 8"

Bořek Šípek, is how it should appear. Doesn't he have Studio Šípek, based in Amsterdam?

Sorry Ivo, Does appear that it has all moved back to Prague.
Might be worth trying this address for further info: info(AT)studiosipek.com
or, having been based in Holland, and Dutch spoken, the phone number is: 00 420 220 514 487

Nope, Boris never answered his email and the piece is still standing around in the studio for someone to trip over it.

Hi Ivo,
Eliminate thoughts that I might be about to say Sklo Union
This is possibly French and made at Daum Freres for marketing under the Sevres marque.
I can't remember precise dates but he has worked for them in the past, (from his web-site).
Regards,
Marcus

That would explain not only the massive crystal object but also the absence of a manufacturer's mark! Good sluithing, and an unexpected twist - very much appreciated.
