Early Monart or Something Else......?
« on: September 09, 2006, 06:24:50 PM »
Can anyone please help with the identification of this piece. It stands 6 and 1/4 inches tall and has lots of aventurine scattered among the golden brown colouring. I was drawn to it because it reminded me of Monart Glass but it has a sunken pontil rather than the polished button pontil.

The link below shows the other piece which I am fairly sure is Monart I also picked it up last week. It stands 14.25 inches tall and is a beauty.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Ronnie

The vase is shape TA size IV.

The footed vase is possibly not Monart but can you take some pics with different lighting. Shape QV size VII if it is. Also, is the colouring on the foot, only, on the surface of the glass?

Thanks for info, Frank. The colour is definitely in the glass as far as the foot is concerned and I must admit it does look very like the QC you mentioned. Here are two further photographs taken today. I hope they help to clarify.

If there is clear glass over the colour on the foot it is almost certainly not Monart. Check again where it has been ground underneath.

Monart applied feet were a single gather marvered in the same colour as the vessel ground but not cased as with the body.
