His penguin maybe however rarer and more desireable than the Whitefriars . Best wishes Patrick.

Do we know which Scandinavian maker?

PS  I went into a Laura Ashley shop yesterday for the first time in years...and they seem to have a range of glassware that looks very much like some of the Per Lutken Holmegaard stuff.....quite scarily similar....in years to come it is going to become so difficult to put an ID to something, especially for new collectors!

{{Patrick}} None of us are infallible...but all comments help, and I like your honest, straight-forward style.  :D  :D

Roy, it's great you're doing your best with the listing, letting people make their own minds up is the way to go.  Good luck with your auction.   :D

Oh you lucky people!  8)

During my usual trawl through Pottery Gazette and Glass Trade Review at Broadfield House this afternoon, I came across the following:

See - I do pay attention... :D

Hello Roy

I would go with Patricks first comment and say your penguin is Whitefriars. I agree with Emmi that the beak, plump chest and streaks in the penguin do put doubts in your mind, but to me it has a few similarities that I have seen in W/f penguins, and also  the ruby one I have. The shape of the base looks right and the tooling mark on the tail. This tooling mark is also on mine and I have noticed it on a few that have sold before on Ebay. This is why I think yours is Whitefriars. It would be interesting to hear from others that own them to see if they also have this tooling mark on the tail. Here are some pictures of mine Roy hope this helps.

Regards
Trudy

The tooling (shears?) mark is interesting but not conclusive IMHO.  If a piece were made in a similar fashion by another company, then it could have the same shears (tool) mark there too.

...but these things are all clues, and definitely worth noting.   :D

Is he actually streaky? Looks more like reflections and background to me. A photo against a white back ground would help and give a better idea of the colour. (Apologies to Roy's garden table star of many ebay auctions!)

Thanks for all your comments, the penguin is not streaky , I think its just swirls when the penguin was made , I have tried taking a picture with a white background but its a bit dark for a decent picture, had to use the table again sorry, mught have to stain it again to make it more presentable

many thanks roy

It looks more like Arctic Blue now.....

...which is suitable for a penguin, I suppose.
