Unidentified boat shaped pressed Vaseline glass dish
« on: March 18, 2023, 11:29:14 PM »
Hi there,

I am at my wits end with this piece.

I know i recognise the style from somewhere, but have come up blank when researching. Gut feeling is that it is British, but research has also taken me - fruitlessly - to US and Germany.

Hi and welcome to the board :)

I don't know anything about pressed glass but this ribbed design with the bobbles along the top always reminds me of Jane Webb pieces for some reason.
There is a shape like yours shown here.
Other than this I cannot help but someone will be along soon I'm sure, who will be able to help you more.

There is more information on Jane Webb here:

I don't know if this will turn out to be much use but just in case :)

Both Warrington firms, Edward Bolton and Robinsons, were doing shapes close to this in the 1880s, though there are no proven examples in this colour. I'm afraid it's perm any of six or more manufacturers for this one if it is unmarked.

We have some in clear of that size, as Neil mentions there were many English manufacturers for these. Yours is a rare Vaseline  colour. Edward Bolton maybe??
Also the moulds changed hands which makes it very difficult identify.
