Topic: Is this Chinese?

I really love this paperweight and wonder who may have made it.

Its nearly 5" tall and the base is polished flat. The glass is a lovely clear crystal and my OH says that the lampwork reminds him of a stylised ship.

Nice bubbles!  Looks Chinese to me, but a nice one.  Perhaps Royal Crest or similar.  A view of the base would help.

However, I have noticed in the local charity shop that the latest Chinese weights have a smoothly finished polished base!  Someone has got wise!   :roll:   :lol:

Some of the new chinese weights are quite pretty. I have a huge one with a polished base. On of the colors in it is very interesting. It's pink/purple in natural light and blue/green in fluorescent light.

I will always have a soft spot for chinese floral weights.

Glass which changes from pink to blue like that probably contains the rare earth neodymium which causes this interesting colour change. If you put neodymium into the board's Search function it'll bring up quite a few discussions about this fascinating glass. An explanation of how it happens can be found here as well.

Could be China-made, or could be from the Czech Republic, Romania, or even Turkey. We are starting to see paperweights with abstract designs here in the States from glassworks in these three countries.

Could it be Caithness? They had a bit of a love affair with neodymium glass
