Orrefors vase ~ designer please
« on: October 14, 2006, 04:48:21 PM »
Hi ~ it's me again!
I recently found this beautiful Orrefors vase, but can't trace the designer in my limited resources. It's about 8.5" tall and signed as per the picture below. Can anyone help with any details?
Thanks in anticipation, John.

thanks Ivo. i thought it might be 'pu', but wondered about the bit which looks like an 'o' in front of the 'p'!
Cheers, John.

I've now listed this vase on eBay (230039228562 if anyone's interested) and have had a query from someone about the designer. They say they have a vase which looks identical but is by Nils Landsberg.
Now I'm a bit worried ~ is it possible that the mark on the bottom is an N rather than a P, or can anyone identify it in any other way?
Also, am I wrong in describing it as 'signed' when it only has these marks on the bottom?
Many thanks, John.

Hiya, Sven Palmquist and Nils Landberg are IMO equally brilliant designers - I couldn't comment on who made it but it's obvious to me that it's a lovely piece of Scandi glass and yes you are fine describing it as signed - it is!  I shall be watching your auction with interest - good luck!

I think you can refer them to the production number which is unequivocal. They can look it up in the production catalogues if they please - why bother you? For you it is Palmqvist, for them it is Landberg. My money is on you. :D  :D

and yes, the item is signed.

Thank you Pip & Ivo ~ your support & information is very comforting.  :D

I think I'll change my description to reflect the debate, just to be on the safe side ~ I wouldn't want anyone claiming I had misrepresented the vase and asking for their money back!

I do agree with you that it doesn't really matter which designer it was ~ the important thing is that it is a truly beautiful piece of glass!! But I guess it matters to some people.

Very many thanks again, John.

Personally, I would believe Ivo over your eBayer any day of the week!  Ivo knows his onions alright :-) and if he says it's SP then that's who it is, end of.

Hi Guys,

Sorry to have to disappoint you, but I thought I should tell you that I've had confirmation from two more eBayers that it's a Landberg piece, both giving the same name for the range it comes from (Dusk Ware)    I've changed the description on eBay accordingly.

Thanks again for your help and support on this one ~ it's really appreciated. I'll be back for more soon, I dare say!

Cheers, John  8)
