Unusual red lipped bowl thing - any info appreciated
« on: October 19, 2006, 10:00:19 PM »
This isn't our usual style but hubby and I bought it because the glass has such an unusual lemony sheen to it - it's a weird translucent sort of effect and it has a thick red rim like a pair of lips - it's funky in it's own way!  However, we haven't a scooby doo about it's origin or anything.  Does it ring any bells with anyone here?  TIA ...

These 'clam shell' vases have been seen and were discussed inthe Murano section - if it is Murano, of course!

Has been attributed to a few makers: Seguso, L.Nason, to name two (I have these two with labels). I'll see if I can find the original link...

Not the one I was looking for, but worth checking out:

EDIT: forgot to ask, but has it got a ground and flattened side so it can be palced on the side?

Thanks for that  - and yes it does!  Something I forgot to mention in my original post was the flat bit on one side.

Should I repost this query in the Murano section or can a nice moderator move it?  :D

Thanks Anne for moving the thread and again to David for pointing me in the Murano direction.  It hadn't occured to me that it was Murano but hubby is next to me saying 'I TOLD you it was Murano' ho hum - selective hearing on my part obviously. Anyway, it gives us a direction to start looking at - Murano clam shells :-)

No, I'd already notified Pip of that one. There is another where I contributed two examples and one had this Seguso label:

The other had an L.Nason label with scalloped edges and script logo - I think both are in the label section of GlassGallery.
