Strange purpley chocolate encrusted vase. Odd...
« on: October 23, 2006, 04:13:41 PM »
This is an oddity.  The vase seems to be made of lilac glass, with a thickly textured encrusted surface in a chocolate / purple colour. The handles are a creamy caramel colour.

The overall effect is not particularly attractive to my eyes.  My gut feeling is this is one to go straight in the bin.

Any ideas anyone?

http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-3813 - base - this shows the encrustation better

http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-3811 - top of the handle.
Thank you very much!

Oh that is a new suggestion, we haven;t had any oily ideas before!  Have you seen one similar or is your fevered imagination at work?

I haven't heard of Lakeland.  I shall have to see what I can find out.

thanks!
Thank you very much!

How odd... this piece is much much nastier (highly subjective opinion here) than anything I would associate Heron with, but then I really only associate them with Ditchfield lookalikes.
Thank you very much!

It certainly does look similar - is Peter a member here? Maybe he will comment on it.  However he does state that his is signed, I haven't found a signature on mine, I will go over it again just in case.
Thank you very much!

Hi,

the vase in the link to my photobucket album is by Will Shakspeare, which although this also has surface decoration, it doesn't look quite the same to me.  The picture really isn't very good, so I've taken a couple more, one which shows the decoration slightly better and one of the mark.

I seem to remember seeing similar vases to Lynne's some time ago on ebay, one of which mentioned in the description as being originally bought from 'The Pier'.  I could be wrong though, as it was a while back.
Other than that I can't help with this one I'm afraid, but you could enquire with Will Shakspeare just in case I'm completely wrong.
