Orrefors GL?
« on: November 08, 2006, 01:30:34 PM »
Hello
I have acquired (well OK, bought then) an Orrefors bowl in cut crystal with the signature GL 4759-12. It also has a silver on transparent Orre sticker.

G would be Gate but i cannot quite place the L . Can anyone enlighten me?
i.

According to Bill G the silver on clear sticker places it lates 1990s early 2000s, see here
so G is not Gate, unless there's one other than Simon, or they're reissuing

Thanks - the Helen Krantz vases are in current production so it may well be recent - but it is not in the present catalogue.  The conclusion that G is not Gate is a bit hasty, I would say. Some of the Gate designs have been in production since 1934!

I did say unless they were reissuing. According to McConnell designer codes were changed in 1970; G for Gate going to SG. Maybe they've changed again because he also says Orrefors stopped sticky labels in 1998 and makes no mention of silver labels. Perhaps he's a tad out of date.  Or perhaps L means a reissue

The form looks to me to be Gunnar Cyren. His signature from 1970 to 1998 was GC

Simon Gates signature during the same period was SG.

The label tells me the form was created in the 1970s

Could the L be a C?
