Iridised Burmese j.i.p vase
« on: November 05, 2006, 11:34:55 AM »
Here is a beautiful jack-in-the-pulpit vase, in Burmese glass with an iridised finish. It glows under u.v like Burmese is meant to do.
It is 15.5 cm tall & the rim is 12.5 cm across. It has a spiral around the stem, more visible in the back view of the vase. No markings.
It would not be usable as a vase, as it is unusually shallow inside, only a few cm deep.

I bought it from a dealer who specialises in carnival & Fenton, & although he bought it in the U.S he didn't think it was Fenton.
I have the book on Fenton Burmese but there isn't a piece quite like it.
I know there are a few firms who make Burmese from Fenton cullet, but they apparently mark their items.
Any ideas on a maker?
Thanks! :)
Marinka.

Hi Marinka -

This JIP vase reminds me of pieces made by a comtemporary glass artist whose website was posted here recently.  But I can't remember which thread it was posted in

Hopefully the member who posted the link will see this and point us in the right direction

Thank you, David.  That is the artist I was trying to remember.

Here is a link to his product page which shows some similar vases

Similar but I don't think the same, unless it was an earlier design. No trails on the ones shown and the base looks different.

Edit: lovely vase though!

I agree, they are similar I didn't say identical.  He has been producing glass pieces for 40 years.

It was the combination of the JIP shape, use of iridescent finishes, and body one color with a different colored throat which made me think that it could be the same artist.

I think it is worth e-mailing him and asking  8)

Hi Connie & David,
thanks for your opinions, much appreciated! :)
This vase does look like the ones by Rick Strini, & I'll investigate as to whether he ever made them in Burmese.
I'm glad you liked the vase, I think it's stunning, & it was a pretty good buy, too. Especially for Burmese! :D
I have a few other pieces of Burmese by Fenton, including another j.i.p vase, & some Victorian Burmese too. I just love the colours of Burmese, & when it's iridised it's even more magical!
Thanks again. :)
Marinka.
