Scandinavian? Votives
« on: November 09, 2006, 11:35:02 AM »
Some time earlier this year I posted a query about a Kosta Boda Votive and mentioned that I had a couple of others.  I wonder if I might ask for help identifying the makers and / or designers of these?  I think they are Scandi.  The windows one was bought new in the '70's, from a shop that had a lot of Scandi glass, but I originally bought it for my old mum, who took the label off - and now I don't remember what it was like

Many thanks     :D

Hi Leni, the second one is Finnish, have a vague notion that it could be Humppila (or then Muurla). Not sure!

The votive in your first image is from Orrefors. If you look closely, there should be an of on the bottom of the form. If not, it is a second.

  Gosh, Bill!  There is, too!    And all this time I'd never noticed it

But it is very small and discreet, and right at the edge of the otherwise completely smooth polished base!

That's my excuse, anyway

Thank you!

Thank you very much  :D

I'm interested to know how you recognise this.  Is it a design you know?  Or is it something about the style?  Or what?   :?  (Just trying to learn   )

Hi Leni

Second one looks like Iittala, Balladi votive designed by Jorma Vennola in 1983. If it's 80 mm high I think it's Balladi.

It is exactly 80mm!  Marinka, you're a star!

So it was designed in 1983?  I thought it was earlier, but thinking about it, we moved here in late 1979 so it is very possible it was 1983 or 4 when I bought it for my mum for Christmas!   :D

Thanks very much!  Can I ask how you recognised it?  Is there a catalogue or something which shows it?

Hi

When I saw that picture I was tinking of Balladi but I had to make sure and check that from little book called Tuikkujen pikkujättiläinen.
It's little book about finnish votives. Pictures are either drawn of photo and there is almoust 200 different finnish votives. Handy little book.
