Eda bowl - when would this date from?
« on: November 16, 2006, 11:47:30 AM »
I have a lovely smokey grey Eda bowl (this is mine btw - not for sale unless The Beloved nags too much, because he hates it...)

It is signed Eda 31, would this be the year?  It is a heavy beast of a piece, with a wonderful incised pattern, very Scandinavian I think.  Does any particular designer come to mind to anyone?  I really can't find anything at all about Eda.  I have scoured the net to no avail.

Is this a valuable piece?  In rough terms I mean?

Can I use it for trifle or is it too valuable for that?

Here are the links - I have also put bigger pics up on my website so you can see the sig easier, it is very faintly scribed.

IMHO 31 would be the year, yes.

According to Ivo's book Eda, Sweden (1835-1953). I can't help with much more, sorry.
Lovely piece of glass though  :P
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Thanks !  I have a copy of Ivo's little book on its way (I hope) soon, so will be able to look more stuff up myself.

It is a rather good shape and pattern though, I love it.  I wonder why there is so little info to be found about Eda?  It isn't that rare is it?
Thank you very much!

There is quiet a bit of info in Ivo's book about Eda, but it would take a while to type it all out, but he does say that.

Thanks Della, that looks like the signature on this one.

Just need to know if it is suitable for trifle or a bit more valuable.  I wish someone somewhere had something of this age for sale so I could see what sort of price it is worth.  If it is very good, I may have to put it into an auction somewhere.
Thank you very much!
