Unknown Studio glass Vase - ID = Anthony Stern
« on: November 17, 2006, 09:15:48 PM »
While sorting out some of my boxes, I found this beautiful piece which I bought some time ago.

http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-4157

It stands about 5 inches high and has a snapped off pontil mark to the underside. There are some scratches to the underside but no signiature that I can make out. The nearest I can think of is Anthony Stern but I am not too familiar with his work and would have expected his pieces to be signed. If anyone has any more knowledge in this area or can offer any further suggestions I would be very grateful.

Thank you

Steven

I recently tried to see a Stern vase on ebay, reserve £100, itdidnt sell,
i may reduce reserve a little, i will try to put link to the item, as it has
a few photos, and 1 from an Glass book, here we go..

edit: link edited for length
Vase

There is also one on ebay finishing today, i do notice the pontil mark
is sort of 4 quarters. I would have thought it would be signed.but maybe
he wasnt happy with it?

One of my Norman Stuart Clarke vases also had 4 quarter pontil mark - but these have all been signed as well.  I wonder if this is a modern tool that is being used to create this pontil signature?  Adam?  Allen? any light to shed?
Thank you very much!

Hi Andy,

Thanks very much for the link, I've had a look through the site & can see some similarities in form with my vase. I will try to contact Anthony directly as you suggest.

I've had alook through ebay & found the Stern vase finishing today:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230050546047

this vase too has a four part pattern to the pontil mark, as does mine. the decoration is also very similar.
