Hmm, I reckon it's too large to be called a paperweight. Needs a new name: carweight? For holding cars down during tornados?

That's the paperweight that Josh did for Corning. See the thread in Glass Events for details. It's part of the paperweight exhibition running through March 16, 2007. I've seen the show and it's gangbusters.

Here are some facts about this spectacular paperweight, which is Corning's 1000th in its collection and the first ever 100 pound paperweight:

Josh Simpson (American, b. 1949)
United States, Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, 2006
Blown, cased, hot-worked, flameworked, murrine cane; applied cane drawing, engraved; gold and silver foils
H. 31.2 cm, Diam. (max) 33.5 cm
The Corning Museum of Glass (2006.4.154)

More info with some stunning paperweights and a page link to Simpson's masterpiece is shown at:

I think it'll be a while before I can afford the 10" planet for $16,000!

For that price, I'd expect Britain depicted, my house on it and me waving through the window.

Edit:  The puzzle is a little more affordable...  8)

The Josh Simpson weight is a remarkable piece of work.

But am I correct in thinking that, in terms of "world's biggest", the largest production output of a particular weight was the "World Weight" from Lundberg Studios?

See the introductory text at the top of the following page link - and also see the foot of the page for pics of the weight in three sizes:
http://artglassbygary.com/glassmaster_lundberg_studios.html

I have a 1992 example of the Lundberg weight which is 4 inch diameter and it does show Britain ... and I can just about make out the plot of land where Max lives  :D

The Arthur Rubloff Glass Paperweight collection at the Chicago Institute Of Art includes a massive glass flower basket made of millefiori and multi-colored glass ribbons. Don't know how much it weights, however. Not sure if that would would be considered a "paperweight" in the traditional meaning of the word.
