It has been suggested it may be stourbridge, dating from 1885 cira, vaseline & in the style of Tiffany, but nothing definate. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hope i can one day return the favour to someone. Thanks Dawn.

Any ideas? I will post the size when Dawn gets back.

Frank: if possible, could you rename the title so that it gives people some idea what the subject's about. Thanks.

Size of Tiffany style glass

Hi
The glass measures 7.5 inches in height, & the width is 4.5 at it's widest point. The condition is excellent, apart from a few flaws,& bubbles, which i assume were done when the glass was being blown.

Thanks Daved, & Frank for helping me out :)

What a great forum, wish i had found out about it sooner. I'm keeping my fingers crossed someone somewhere will recognise this piece, and help me with some history on it.  :)

Any chance of a picture of the point where the stem joins the foot? It is quite an unusual piece and the proportions are somewhat unusual as well. What would be helpful would be to ascertain is whether the foot was added hot or whether it has been added later by adhesion. ie one piece or two. :D

Hello,

I can't tell for sure by your photo, because you didn't really capture the important details in your picture, so it looks pretty much like most other opalescent vase. I think I see a rib-optic pattern, but I may be wrong and someone already mentioned needing to be able to see a good shot of the bottom where it meets to the stem. Going on the little bit I think I can make out in your photos;  It looks a lot like a vase which 3 different glass companies are credited for. Model Flint Glass, Dugan and Northwood I believe. All three of these companies ended up under one name; National Glass, so the mold may have been passed around or something like that. The pattern is called "Lorna" and the examples featured in my books are around 6-7 inches or more, depending on the style of crimping done on the top rim. At least those are a few names you can research on your own and maybe you will post some pictures of the more important details sop that someone can tell you more.

Mike

Edited to add;  here is a link to a site that shows a Lorna vase with a different crimp.

The top of your vase is folded down, so your will have to look at it to see if the ribs\flutes in the pattern terminate the same way near the top.

Is it actually vaseline, i.e., uranium glass? Have you tested it with a UV light to see if it glows bright green? I have my doubts.

It looks quite similar in some respects to my 'ice cream cone' vase, which I bought as vaseline / uranium glass, but isn't.

These both fluoresce only slightly, with a very dim grey-green.

This is not the Lorna pattern by Northwood/Model Flint/National Glass.  the top was never flared this much.  LORNA was a pressed piece, with some various tooling by a glassworker on the top rim, but there was not this much glass available for tooling.  It is also not Tiffany vaseline, which was whisper thin.  there is about a 99% chance that this is a Stourbridge piece, but I would only give it about a 30% chance of glowing green under a blacklight, unless the photography turned out strange.  Just not the right shade of yellow-green to glow.  I don't think there is any uranium salts in this piece from what I can see in the photo.

Hello again,

I didn't have time to do it yesterday, but today I did some detail blowups and I can see that this isn't a Lorna vase, mainly because there is no mold seam across the foot.

http://i10.tinypic.com/498i80x.jpg

There is a ribbed\fluted pattern, which might help someone to figure out who, what, when it is.

As for the glowing bit, I could never speculate by a photo alone, but considering what appears to be an orange wall and brown table top background showing through colored glass, in a photo that seems to be a bit on the dark side anyway, It may be or not be something that would glow when exposed to a black light.

Just for the heck of it, I ran the photo through my Nikon camera software and it's default lighting correction feature just to see what it would look like.

This of course means nothing as far as the glowing novelty, but the brighter photo might help for Identification purposes.
