Maker's Mark VW
« on: January 17, 2007, 02:19:34 PM »
Hi,

I have an art glass bowl with inclusions, signed "VW 2001"..........almost certainly VW, but at a stretch VH.  Does anyone recognise the initials?

Can post a picture of the bowl if need be, but the signature may not photograph.

Many thanks
Cat

Here are the pictures of the bowl.  Signature on the under edge of the rim wouldn't photograph clearly.

You are better off in the Glass forum for identification purposes.

I'm around but that will not help you very much. Slumped and fused glass are not easy to identify. The production requires little technical outlay and the result is often unremarkable. Andreas Meyer of Nahariya Glass, Israel is a well known producer, and there is some production in Northern Greece and in Asturias and in Germany - but I could not possibly tell you who made this item.

Thank you Ivo - it was just on the off chance that you had added "VW" to your collection since the book was printed.  We'll see if anyone else might have something similar with a label.  Cat

Cat, do a search on this board because the VW signature has been brought up a couple of times on here recently and discussed fully - I think this is why Pamela suggested Volkswagen.

Hi Pip,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I do search first as I am aware that I am a relative newcomer and a lot of what I'm learning is old ground for others.  The only info I found at the time was about Vera Walther.  Unfortunately the "VW" didn't fit that attribution.  HEINER DÃœSTERHAUS makes glass which could have included something like my bowl, but he signs DÃœSTERHAUS, so although there is a Vera Walther link there it didn't fit either.  Unless I missed the thread you're thinking of somehow, the only Volkswagon references I found was Anne's paperweight with a possible VW or VV signature - different to mine - and Martin's wonderful analogy using car manufacturers' branding as an example for why glass companies might use other names for some of their products.

If none of that sounds like what you were thinking of, then I've missed it and I'd be grateful for anything else you might remember so that I can search again.

Many thanks

Hi Cat, I was thinking about this thread of Max's but it may or may not be relevant to your item - just knew I remembered something about VW and Volkswagen on here!
