Green Glass Float Bowl ?
« on: January 28, 2007, 10:08:14 AM »
This green glass bowl is approx 27cm wide and 6.5cm high. It is curved which reminds me of a float bowl. It also has a raised pattern on the inside of what appears to be a pointsettia flower, surrounded by other flowers and dragonflies/butterflies (or moths ;)) There aren't any distinguising marks on it other than the pattern. What do you think? Old or new? English or other?

Completely worthless, Lyn. Better send it to me for confirmation though  ;)

Waterlily and dragonfly float bowl, made by the Crystal Glass Co (of Australia) pre 1926 and possibly Crown Crystal post-1926.

Rare as hen's teeth, Lyn. It's one of the carnival patterns and comes in marigold and dark amethyst. The carnival patterns sometimes appear in other Crown colours such as rosalyn, emerald green, citron and pastel blue, but they're not common. It's a beautiful piece.

Cathy

Oh look, here it is in carnival glass http://www.carnivalheaven.com/carnivalglass102/id193.htm#waterlily_and_dragonfly___float_bowl__. It's a much clearer pic of the pattern.  Were there many other pieces in this pattern? I think I may have seen a jug ($150) on one of my searches.

I currently have mum up visiting and she reminded me that she bought the bowl in a set which included a frog & plinth.  We thought, originally that these must have been separate pieces. Anyway, we put them all together today and voila! They all seem to fit together nicely.  So, Cathy B would these have been a set do you think? The plinth fits the base of the bowl like a glove.

Here's a pic of the three pieces together.

Also, I guess I have to ask the burning question. What value would I be looking at for this piece/set?

Hi Lyn,

Sorry about the delay, but I've been out with the kids all day today. Nice plinth and flower holder, but they do not match. In fact, putting that heavy flower holder (or frog) into that float bowl risks damaging the bowl.  :o

Turn the flower holder and plinth over and see whether either has 'Made in England', or a number.  :D

Cheers!

Where did the original picture go  ??? ???

Just trying to catch up with all the postings from the last few weeks, so just getting round to this one and the first photo doesn't exist anymore.

 :o
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.
