Green Satin Glass Cigarette/Card Holder, Czech? German?
« on: February 11, 2007, 03:39:51 PM »
Good morning!

I was wondering if anyone has run across one of these in their travels, and might know who made it, and when?

and just for fun

A friend in AU has looked through her Walther references, and doesn't see it - she suggested I try you all. :)

Thanks for looking

Kelli

Hi
On my one there is a butterfly, bottom right 2cm from fairy's foot.  This is the mark of Heinrich Hoffman Czech designer 1930's, some of his work is marked but not all.  Lovely piece, mine is clear & frosted.
Cheers Peter

Kelly, where did you position your blacklight to get that brilliant photo? I have enormous problems photographing blacklit pieces to show the glow...

any tips gratefully received.

Hi Lynne! So sorry I didn't get back here earlier, we are getting ready for vacation and I'm a bit distracted, lol.

I just have one of those "Walmart" special blacklights, and I had it sitting directly in front of the piece, but out of the picture boundaries. I don't normally have much luck with blacklight photos however, it's just that this particular piece is a glowing monster compared to others I've had.

Peter, this one doesn't have a butterfly, but you think the detail is the same as yours? She almost looks like a "sea nymph" since there's waving grasses on the sides of the piece. I'm tickled that she's not of recent vintage, marked or not. Thanks again, I sure appreciate your input.

Hi Kelli and Peter,
I do doubt that yours is a Hoffmann piece - Hoffmann's patterns were 'engraved', not high pressed
just mho  :-\

Hi Pamela! Duly noted, and it will remain a mystery for the time being. :) I have so few references on Czech and German art glass that every piece is "special" to me, lol.

Hi again - I did a search so I could see some of Heinrich Hoffman's work, and found a page at the "Great Glass" website. I'm not sure if I can post a link, or if that's 'out of bounds' here so just google "great glass" +hoffman and it should be your first option.

Anyway - I see what sounds like the one that Peter describes there under Hoffman's work photos, and they call it "relief moulded". Several items there use that technique, apparently.

So now I'm more confused than ever, but it's okay, lol.  :o

We're leaving on our trip this afternoon, and won't be back for several days - a REAL vacation, with hotel room, pool, no phones, sun, no cooking for me, and no computers (not sure how I'll handle that!! I'm addicted!) - so I hope you all have a great next few days.

Thanks again for all the help, and interesting info on this type of glass.

I'm listing it as an unidentified piece so as to not misrepresent.
