Help identify my Art Glass Vase
« on: October 11, 2021, 11:28:46 PM »
I have an interesting vase here with enameled Egyptian Winged Serpent Goddess, unsigned, smooth pontil 7.5" tall. Tried researching to no end. Any information to help identify would so nice :)

Hello and apologies for a late welcome to the board :)

That's a lovely vase.  I think you will need to match the shape to find a maker.  I have a somewhat similar shaped neck vase that I think might be Harrach however the polished (?) pontil mark and the finish of the rim on yours makes me think it could be another maker. Mine has a cut rim and the base is not as stylishly flattened in shape as yours.
The decor reminded me of that on a friend's vase - their vase is this shape - the decor is like this one but a little more similar to yours, in colour:

Sorry not to be more helpful.

Thank you for the welcome. I am glad someone responded. Any bit of info helps. That link really did have a similar decor. The cut/polished rim on mine is very nicely done and really was the second thing that caught my eye when I bought it. It could take quite some time to identify this vase if at all. I also think the other issue is that there are not a whole lot of Egyptian revival vases online to compare to. And of course is this Egyptian revival from the 1890's or the 1920's period. Hard for me to say. Also interesting that the maker decided to enamel a wajet or Uraeus onto it which seems very uncommon for revival motifs in that period. This one is really stumping me.

Sorry you thought you were being ignored - I did look but was stumped and decided to wait until somebody who knows more says something.
As we're at the point of suggestions, my initial reaction was that I associate this shape with being French. I may be completely wrong. ;D
Welcome!  :)

I've just double checked my old photographs of her vase. I'm sure it's the same decor as yours and the one I linked to.
It's the same maker as the one I linked to definitely but a slightly different body shape (not by much, but slightly different) and the handles are applied in a different place on the shoulder of the vase rather than the neck but I'm sure it's the same maker as the linked one.  It has a polished pontil mark but a fire polished rim not cut and polished.

I think you'll need to hang on and see if eventually a known decor in a your shape comes up .

I think your right, just held my vase up to linked photo and its decor is with out a doubt identical and it is a unique pattern and texture. I looks real similar to Loetz oil spot. But the finish is not smooth like loetz it has a grainy like look just like the link you posted.

Would you happen to a have a image of your friends ? Now if only we can identify shape/maker life would be that much sweeter!

An interesting link I found was the closest Egyptian revival motif art glass pieces I could find. Please see link below

I do but she would prefer not at the moment.

However I'm sure the decors are all the same.  I do have Loetz Papillon as well and it's not the same.

I'd initially thought it might be a Tiffany Cypriot or Lava decor but I don't think so now.
I think it's Bohemian or Silesian.

Fritz Heckert and I think Moser also did an Egyptian revival enamelled version  but they're not similar.  Moser wouldn't be my first thought at all.  They could turn out to be from Heckert but I think that would be a very longshot to be honest. The fact that the one I linked to and my friends vase are so incredibly similar in shape ... but not quite the same is something I'd not associate with any of the well known makers.  Yours I do think is the same decor but is a more recognisable shape.  Or perhaps I mean a shape where we are more likely to find a match eventually.  I was quite surprised to find that one similar to my friend;s vase!

They also remind me, in the variation of shape I mean but NOT of decor, of the Stevens and Williams Caerleon vases, but I would never expect to find a Stevens and Williams Caerleon or any other vase in your shape with a cut and polished rim.

I really do appreciate all of your knowledge and feel we are one step closer to identifying. I will continue to research the shape and hopefully something will turn up eventually. Too bad the link did not identify the maker.
