Modern Chance look-alike Made in England
« on: February 14, 2007, 04:29:12 PM »
Just for interest - large triangular shape slumped dish bought from TK-Max for £2.99 :o. If you hold it up to the light you can see the word "banana" written in the mid row of circles.  Tasteful eh ;)   Made in England label on the back.  http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/glassie/Chancelook-alike.jpg

Any ideas who made it?

Joseph Joseph I think is a possibility Anne.  They're based in the UK as far as I know...can't find their website, but if you Google lots of their pieces come up.

Sorry, was speaking to Marcus...

Yes, JJ is a strong possibility (8/10 and a green star to Max). The size quoted in their brochure for the triangle is 30cm x 16cm, so that provides another clue.

Can't see that particular pattern though and the web site has moved away from slumped glass for some time... but it's the sort of whacky thing they did produce.

Whatta team!   :D  (only a green  star though?  ;))

I've got (somewhere) a large similar shaped plate by JJ with an olives transfer.  The top of the plate is kind of textured, like a small grid pattern - another thing I'll have to dig out and photograph.   :)

You might not be surprised, but the tray with olives printed on, was called 'Olives' - now there's a revelation! ;D

Thanks everyone ;)

Only 8/10 and a green star! :o  Full marks, and a gold one for Max ;D  You can be in my class any day ;)

It was marked TK Maxx' "current season", but I suppose they must buy up old stock and that's how they can sell so incredibly cheaply.  Almost spot on with the size.

Snap, Max!

I think there is still some slumped glass on their site - look under products for Snack and Scribble Snack. They call it "bent glass" but it looks pretty slumped to me.

Actually, come to think of it, slumped is a pretty accurate description of the way I feel right now - one of those really frustrating days at work where you get caught in the crossfire of other people's office politics...
