Isle of Wight large - any idea of the name of the design?
« on: February 16, 2007, 12:24:46 PM »
Two questions about this IOW - firstly the flame mark is very very faint and badly impressed.  Does this mean anything?

and does the design have a name?

edited:  looking at some aurene vases, it looks very similar, but I am VERY loath to assume anything is IOW Aurene, as I am always getting it wrong....what think you?
Thank you very much!

Got an id now for Gold Aurene.  Great.

Looking at the pontil again, it seems very chunky for the flame mark, I'm reading about the coach bolt mark, but I don't know quite what that looks like... does anyone have a piccy?

Thank you very much!

Hi Lynne,
the coachbolt is about 2 1/2 cm diameter,, just looks like a blob of glass, that the round top of
a bolt was pushed into, so its like a little bowl, it does leave a little molten glass 'scar'
in the middle, but no flame mark.
Hope this helps,
i will try to get a good photo of one when i get time.
Cheers Andy

Thanks Andy, if it is that wide then this is just a scruffy flame mark.
Still be interested to see a bolt mark if ever you have time to photo it.

Thank you very much!

Thank you Andy, that is most definitely an unmissable lump!

So I can say without fear of error now that mine is NOT one of those...
Thank you very much!
