Ravenhead tumbler for Pilkingtons 100/150th Anniversary
« on: February 23, 2007, 06:59:59 PM »
Interesting whiskey tumbler made by Ravenhead for Pilkingtons.

Celebrating, it would appear, 100th year from Gerard Bridge, 1876, to Cowley Hill, 1976. Pilkingtons were formed in 1826, so could also be 150th anniversary.

Deep recessed textured base should alert someone to the style. Large beastie emasuring 10cm (4") tall, 8.5cm (3ΒΌ") diameter

Any ideas who fired the transfer onto the glass ;)

Ooo that's interesting!  No idea who fired the transfer on...far too hard for me!  But yes, I've seen that style of base before on glasses.  :)

No bright ideas on the transfer, I'm afraid, but I have another St Helen's centenary for the following year:

Also made by Ravenhead, celebrating 100 years of glass-making at Sherdley-Peasley. The seller got them from her father-in-law, who used to work for Ravenhead - I wondered if perhaps the glasses were given out to employees. Maybe it was Pilks gave them the idea?
