Pressed Uranium vase - Czech 1930s?
« on: February 26, 2007, 03:24:01 PM »
I found a nice "off-square" vase at the weekend.

Standing: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5350
Side and base: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5348
Top: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5347

6" tall.  Very thick and heavy, and very reactive to UV.  No maker's mark or sig.
It has a fire-polished top rim and "birdbath" base with a ground rim.  The quality of the glass is excellent, with no mould lines, frit or bubbles.   The base shows a fair amount of wear.

My guess would be that it's Czech from the 1930s.
Anyone agree?

Thanks
Chris

I'd agree Chris. :) Looks like the Frantisek Zemek vase at the top of page 124 of Marcus' book.

Yes, indeedy.  Marcus wrote me that a while back.  I thought it was on here.  Obviously not.  And obviously a lot later than the 1930s!
I've since acquired one in blue and one in purple, and arrived 10 secs too late to pick up a pink one at the local car booter.

Good idea, me dear!
I have some updates and confirmations of some items that I've listed previously.  I'll try and look them out and put them right.
Cheers,
Chris
