Title: Large Blue and Gold Bowl - Want to buy it but how much is it worth?
Post by: ardy on October 18, 2007, 12:53:52 AM
Hi All and regards from down under.

I have been suffering from a great desire for this bowl and the owner has asked me to make him an offer on it. Frankly looking at Murano prices on the web etc it is almost impossible to get a sensible idea of what to offer for it.

It is Approx. 45cm (18") long and 35cm (14") wide.

It is not signed or marked.

Thanks again for all your help. What a great site this is.

Bob,

it's a beautiful bowl and massive. here's a link to one that's very similar http://www.trocadero.com/mt1007/items/679656/item679656.html (http://www.trocadero.com/mt1007/items/679656/item679656.html)
the bowl in this link is "certified" but it's also significantly smaller. i'd say it's a special piece but the price you are comfortable paying will depend upon whether you intend to keep and treasure it or resell it. only you can say what it's worth to you.

not much help, i know... sorry. gosh, it's a lovely bowl, though. i can see why you covet it so.

Great glass. It looks like a sfumato piece. The seller probably has a good bit invested in the bowl. The best way I can think to make an offer is to ask the seller what the best price is that he/she could afford to sell it for. The seller will have a better idea of what is invested in the glass and what is acceptable.

Hello guys

Glad you can see why I am dying to get this piece. It is for me! me! me! not for resale. In fact I have a one way sign re glass on my front door.

Bidda I am sure this is from the same batch of Seguso shell bowls that you kindly provided the link to. The design and highlights are the same.

thanks again to you all for looking at this and giving me the advantage of your huge knowledge.

Looks like "pulveri", by Archimede Seguso.

Are the sfumato pieces a form of polveri? I have seen some Seguso pieces called polveri in some places and sfumato in others. I just assumed that sfumato glass had polveri that shaded from one color to another, but it may have been my attempt to bring the two sides into agreement. Do the sfumato pieces use polveri?

Hi TXSilver

In doing more internet work on this piece I think at last I can add some knowledge. Not mine of course.

"Pulveri" is the name of the style. It means "powdered". "Sfumato" is a technique producing this smoky effect by enclosing fine inner veils of colour in the glass. "Oro" is of course gold. In each case, the sfumato effect is graduated in over the gold foil.

Hi All

Just to let you know that I bought it today for $AUS500 ($US 420). I am delighted to have it and think I am lucky to own such a piece.

One other question, why are so many of the Murano pieces unsigned?

regards from Down Under

The question on the whole forum in general is why is so much glass unsigned. It's not just Murano!

$430 is a very good price for that piece.
It looks really large, which is pretty rare to find.
Excellent buy!

Thanks Svazzo,

It doesnt have a place of honour in the house yet. But I have just bought a glass topped table that I hope will do it justice.
