Title: This Mornings finds...
Post by: Pat on October 23, 2005, 05:23:15 PM
This morning I went to three car boot sales and did not see one piece of glass that I would have wanted at any price. Then I called in at a fairly local antique fair. I bought two Aseda Glasbruk bud vases to add to my collection of them at reasonable prices and the following curiosity of which I have no idea about. If anyone knows I'm all ears:

Almost certianly Riihimaki glass.

The handle is nearly the same as a Kleopatra jug in this site.

I have two Riihimaki vases with that orange/red colour.

I saw a vase recently with the Kleopatra handle, and in the same shade of red, but less angular and Scandinavian-looking (not that the Kleopatra vases look Scandi in the slightest!). I didn't know what to make of it and I wasn't overly keen, so my wallet stayed quite firmly shut. Until I found some Holmegaard - the bane of my bank balance. Coincidentally, this purchase was funded by the sale of my previous Kleopatra vase, which I couldn't find a place for in my collection.

But if Riihimaen applied that style of handle to all manner of vases, then who knows? The mystery vase I saw could indeed have been by them. Gah!

I found a few bits and pieces myself this week - I'll have to take some snaps when I get round to it.

Your vase is very nice, though, Pat. And a great bargain at £3.
