Title: National Portrait Gallery -- Paperweight ??
Post by: antiquerose123 on September 20, 2011, 09:26:09 PM
:hi: and I think this is a Paperweight, of sorts....

Looks like it is (IMHO) Henry VIII, and is made of glass.  Sticker on the Back says "National Portrait Gallery" but I can not find any info on the date, or if it is just a souvenir piece from somewhere, and if these were sold in the thousands as a Souvenir piece....or What.

Size is 2.75 inches wide, and about .75 inches tall.

Any knowledge about these at all?  Year made, souvenir piece, collectible...or what?  It is Henry the VIII image (looks like a copied image) not drawn image. It is a Paperweight -- Yes?

Thanks, as always... :kissy:

 Hi Rose,

IMHO, it is a paperweigh.

The National Portrait Gallery is a museum in London.

And this is definitely, Henry VIII... This portrait is quite famous (and it is in the National Portrait).

So, it must be a souvenir bought in the museum shop.

Yes, you have a souvenir of London, unfortunately these plain weights with pictures inserted have been made for a long time and are still being made. You can buy them on ebay to put your own picture in, so they are very easy to have customised for a particular place.
