You posted in the right place and the pictures are very good. People just don't know what your vase is. To me it looks most like contemporary Murano, but I do not know. I wish we could be more help.

That is confusing. I had not even noticed it before you pointed it out. I'll have to let the moderators explain it. I wonder if there have been some changes I'm not aware of.

I reviewed the things about the new sub-forums at the top of the home page. There was no mention of Murano glass, so I do not know if it has changed to only considering glass that has been identified definitely as one of the Murano companies. I do not think this was the problem with your vase. The Murano group has been slow lately, and it is probably that no one recognizes your vase.

I will have a go at explaining the "where to post" confusion.

It always has been the idea that ID requests should be initially posted to the general Glass (or Paperweights) forum. The country forums were intended to be for discussions or research on topics that were definitely known to belong in those categories. When ID requests in Glass were suitably answered, a moderator would move them to a country forum, or to the Resolved / Unresolved sub-forums within Glass if there was no country forum for an item.

In the very early days of the GMB, Murano was the only “country” forum, but in fact it was set up as a “Murano society” rather than as a basic country forum as we have them now. When there was only Murano as a specific forum, in most cases the items were reasonably certain to be in the correct place and to move them out to Glass, only to move them more or less immediately back again, was unnecessary work. So the habit of posting to a country forum developed from there.

But when the country forums began to be extended, ID requests were often posted in all those forums, even when the poster had only a vague idea that the item might be of that particular country (or range of countries). Over the past few months there have been quite a few cases of posts having to be moved out of a country forum to the general Glass forum.

Very recently the board’s front-page category headings were extended to say “Post here for ID requests” and “No ID requests here please”. This was a simple way to try to encourage members to do what had always been intended.

Having said that, it is, of course, acceptable that if an item is known to be of a certain country then its original post can be made in the relevant country forum. This would normally only apply to posts where an ID request is, say, in respect of a designer rather than a glassworks or a place. Also, any post which is a general discussion relating to a specific country can be placed immediately in that country forum.

With many forums and sub-forums, it will never be easy to maintain to a specific set of guidelines for where to post because there will always be exceptions to any guideline! But the idea of “ID requests always start in Glass (or Paperweights)” was intended to keep things simple – especially for moderator work load.

Yes we have tweaked some of the headings as Mods are constantly having to move topics, from country forums where the poster thinks they may have come from but probably haven't, into Glass. This is adding considerably to the workload on our already overstretched Mod team, so we're trying to make it clearer what should be where.

If you *know* an item is Murano, Scandi etc because it has a label as such then yes, you can post a question into the relevant discussion forum asking for more info about it - e.g maker, designer, age,  etc...  e.g. if you have an item with a generic Murano label you can post that into the Murano forum asking if anyone can tell you who on Murano, and so on.

If you do not know (as in with labelled or signed certainty) which place it originates then Glass is the right place to start.  As soon as we have established that it's from a certain place one of the Mods will be able to move it over to that forum. You don't need to ask us to do this - we check routinely and move things as and when a Mod is available to do it.

The only exception is for paperweights, which should be posted into there regardless of where they come from please.

Hope this helps explain what we're trying to do. I will (as soon as I have the time!) write this into the board's Help topics as well.   :sun:

    Hello Anne

I’m new on this Forum; I see things in alternate direction as you and old GMB Members.

GMB forum is accessible and built up good. I found myself quickly and knew what was where to find.

I use this word “Mistaken” for myself (No ID and All ID requests) in this case I find it difficult, like u written [If you *know* an item / If you do not know] gives me a small matter.

Where do I put my Query for best results?

I know if just one ID Forums (or Sub forums) request, this gets unclear, and in other way too.
If I look to the amount of post I put my request to the Glass Forum, and hope this goes not under!

Looks like in both why I have 50% chance, for someone find me in here :hi:
