Post by: Cazza on November 03, 2007, 05:04:45 PM
Can anyone tell me where abouts to look for g toffolo's signature, on the large flamenco figures, I managed to buy them both they are around 17" high. One has the label still attatched, but not sure where the signature is usually so far have not found it.
Many thanks :)

The ones I have seen that were signed (and not all are) were on the base at the front.

I am getting very nervous though about the number of large figures appearing at auction at present.  Far more than would seem to be feasible.

Are there any reports of fakes coming in?

You've uploaded them to the Glassgallery, which is a separate but connected place. You have to copy the url given under your picture in file information and add it to your post

Yes, they are lovely, I wasn't trying to imply that yours were fakes Cazza, merely that I have suddenly found a LOT of Venetian figures at auction recently, and since they go for considerable amounts of money, it seems very odd that there should be so many around.

It is not that they are fake, rather that they may be modern imports, that are not being properly attributed in the auction houses, and are assumed to be earlier figures.

Hi there Lynn I didn't pay that much for them but am not sure about their value, I was thinking of putting them into another auction. They look perfect to me have looked very carefully. I do not want to pur how much I paid for them on here but would like to know what sort of money they usually fetch properly catalogued etc. I know you didnt acutally mean these ones in particular.  :) Can you help me with value please.

I'm sorry Cazza I can't, the value depends on so many things, where they will be sold, the condition, who the buyers are on the day, whether the value is for sale, to buy or for insurance.

If you are planning to put them into the auction, then the auctioneer should be able to give you a guide price for how much he expects them to make in that particular saleroom.

Hi there Lynn, thanks for the reply, they must be worth more than £100  :hiclp: I paid near this figure for them. I shall see if I can sell them in a better auction than the one where I bought them. I did think of ebay but I do not think they will get their true worth. to be true I was at the auction for some whitefriars but it went for silly money far more than it was worth in my opinion, these were not pictured or even properly catalogued and I thought they looked well made and perfect so bought them. There was some other really nice glass there but I did not buy it as I wanted my money for the W/F. Wish I didn't hang on and bought some now. Anyway thanks for your help.

Ah that is always a problem isn't it, when the stuff you REALLYwant is at the end of the auction, and the stuff you COULD have bought is near the beginning..

to go overdrawn or not to go overdrawn, that is the question..... :ac1:
