Can anyone id this for me please its a lovely vase with birds and foliage the glass is so thin.

Many thanks is it worth anything as I know nothing about the maker it seems hard to find out about them? It is extremely fine.

Many of the Cenedese family are still working in Murano. I don't know of a Giovanni, but there is a Gino. Move it to the Murano board, as people (Alex?) there may know.

Aha! Great Glass doesn't mention Simone Cenedese and Paolo Cenedese, now both working in Murano! :D But yes, I guess you're right. I would say it's definitely Giovanni - another of the great Cenedese family ;D
Definitely needs moving to Murano board, though ;)

I find the crudity of the signature out of character on this piece. It could be a later addition/deception.

I am not sure, but why do that it is a really nice piece of glass I cannot belive someone could do that without exceptional talent the glass is paper thin.

To get more on eBay where people tend to go wild if a piece is signed. One seller that did this to lots of glass, some of it worth more with its original value destroyed by the signature. He was exposed by this glass-board, but made a small fortune doing it. Despite his spelling mistakes etc.

Hi I did not sign this glass, its too delicate to even think of putting on ebay. I am currious of it if you could see it you would understand some of it is etched and some of it cut the birds are cut, how it was done is a mystery to me as it is so very thin. My husband thought it had to be plastic because it is so thin but it is glass I bought it because I liked it, although I do not usually buy this sort of glass.

Difficult to tell without larger images of the decoration. Could be partly acid etched via transfer or painted on mask, sandblasted with stencils, or etched, and highlights cut. Did I miss any out ;)

Hi Frank id you wanted i could email you some larger images, they wont let larger ones on here. Thanks for your help. The birds are cut deep the other things are probably done in one of the other ways you mention.

By "larger" do you mean the Kb size or the pixel size?
The info from the Posting Pictures Guidelines (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html) says: ... You will need to ensure your images are less than 125kb each ... ... Images between 150px and 400px aspect will enlarge to an inline image below the post text, and those over 400 px aspect will open in a separate popup window.
So, maybe if larger dimension images (e.g. over 400 pixel in height or width) are too big in Kb size, you could use an optimising (or "quality") function in the image editor to make sure it's beklow 125Kb.
Or you could use the GlassGallery to store larger images (both Kb and pixel size) and simply link to them.

When I magnify the signature image by 400% I see, in reverse, on the opposite side of the glass:
© 82 FHC [or FHG or FHO]
LIMITED
EDITION
Perhaps that will help to provide even more info?

Hi there Kev yes I was trying to get an image of that on here you are right, it was so stressful getting the ones I have on here i gave up. Is there some way i can trace those marks its FHG. The marks are on the base and the pontil is indented into the bottom of the vase in a kind of peak.

No better reason for buying, IMHO! :D No shame there! The shame is that people spoil a nice item by putting a fake sig on it >:( ..... If it is a fake! I suppose it could be genuine :huh: It just seems a bit unlikely, to be honest.

I didnt know what the sig was just bought as thought it looked nice. will keep in my window and annoy my kids with it.

I think it's probably all cut, and not etched. The markings look like typical shapes you get with a wheel, and with this kind of design it would be far easier to stick to one method of decoration rather than two. Pretty vase!

I have a collection of tumblers in this style made by Carlo Tosi during the '60 (it was a wedding gift for my parents). They are so thin and light that you can bend them a little bit giving some pressure with the fingers on the sides... Now we have 30 pieces, but originally they where 36... >:(
They are a classic here and many master glassmakers (Striulli, Fuin, Seguso) make them.
Cenedese is a pretty common name in Murano. Giovanni is a common name too.
I suppose that the signature was made by the artisan who decorated the glass, not by the glass blower; normally they are not the same person.
