I'm looking at a lampworked paperweight with a small G cane (black on a white background) in the base - anyone have any idea who this might be?
-
Hi Lynne
The only artist I know who uses a signature cane like this is Randall Grubb - an American Paperweight maker.
Have you got a copy of Andy Dohan's book "Doctionary of Paperwegiht Canes" as it will show it in there
Dave

thanks Dave - I am very thin on books at the moment - I keep spending my money on stock, and have none to spare for the reference stuff
This does have a very modern American look about it so that might well be on the money.

Great, now that I have a name, I have checked it out, and this is correct. thanks again.

In addition to Randall Grubb, John and Gertrude Gentile also used a signature cane with a G in it. Robert Grablow, of course, used the RG signature cane.
Also, Perthshire used letter canes for its PP14 and PP32 paperweights. In the case of a letter G cane, that would have been a PP14 from 1975. The PP14 used every letter over the course of the years it was made; A for 1969 through Z in 1994. There are no other factory designating signatures in these weights - no letter P for Perthshire. Of course, in 1984, in the alphabet sequence, the P was used.
The PP32 used J through R from 1978 to 1986.
Can you post a photo of the weight? I'm sure we'd all like to see it.

I don't have one at the moment - it really depends on whether I get to buy it or not .....
If I do then you will get it in glorious technicolour. It is a lovely lovely weight.
If I don't you will just get me whining about it
-
Hey, sometimes whining is a good thing.

Let me tell you sometimes it is the ONLY good thing I can do...
