Title: Just tell me these are *MURANO FIGURINES*.........Please ??
Post by: antiquerose123 on August 07, 2011, 03:01:57 AM
 :hi:

After a little rough start to today, I decided to buy myself a gift.  I have been admiring these for a while, and the guy is selling his building so the price went down on these.  Please tell me they are Murano  :X:  ......I am not sure who as I have not seen any like this.  I would *** guess Barovier ?  maybe ?

Anyways they are between 6.5 inches and almost 7 inches.  There is gold foil in them, and they are just clear glass/foil/green glass/ and a iridescent to them. The Green has NO glow to it (rats  ) but I checked.  Pontil scar on the bottom, and a different base from my other figurines (2) here.  Anyone have any idea on the maker or the age.  The Price tag at the store just said the price, and called them Art Glass from the 40's BUT I do not think they are that old.
 :huh2:

Any info on these would be Greatly appreciate.  I really like them!!!  I hope they are Murano -- and that I do not have any more bad days here ... LOL

I think I got a Good Deal on them !!

Thanks Ivo  :kissy:

I have been digging ( ...and digging, and digging .... ) here.  These are the only things I have found (kinda) (maybe) similar - if not at all, as I dunno what to call these.  So just trying simple google words.

Here is some other glass things that Kinda ?? have the same finish ??, and the glass figures in the one link kinda has a similar base -- but this is just my digging around looking for other (http://www.gifanimations.com/GA/Image/Icons/Camera/cam13.gif) pictures of some sort:

Here, figurine - base similar  (http://www.alanmossny.com/store/furniture_item_detail.php?id=322984)
Here, Glass Elephant (http://www.antiquehelper.com/item/292915)
 Another Figurine (http://www.moltabellaglass.com/items/765440/item765440store.html#item)
 Glass Donkey  (http://www.danripley.com/catalogs/oct%20mod/Image_0020_0881_0001_Full.htm)

That is all I have found (so far) with kinda that type of finish --  (http://www.gifanimations.com/GA/Image/ClipArt/Cartoons/Miscellaneous/clipart_cartoons_misc_010.gif)  I am still hunting

Scroll down to number 2 on this list Rose.  Although these are candle holders, they look very like the same maker.....problem is, they don't say who made them, but you could ask!!!

Have a look anyway, see what you think.  :sun:

Rose, I wondered if your figures might be either Seguso or Archimede Seguso because of the color and finish. The figure at Molta Bella is a Seguso one, which reminds me most of your two. I would say that it is the best guess. The size is right, too.

The gold is real gold, but the quantity used is tiny as a little goes a long way. I think they use gold leaf and the heat causes it to look like a powder,

Thanks Txsilver, and Lustroustone for your responses.

I have been digging (just about all night here )   Would this finish be called *Iridato* ??  As I found this one on Ebay with the same kinda looking glass, but I do not know.

**Here is the Link, Ercole Barovier  (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/290325664816?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.ca%3A80%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp5197.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D290325664816%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1)

Also I had read on Trocadero that less detail in a face means that they are older?  Does anyone know IF this is true or not?

**See the info here (Molta Bella):  (http://www.trocadero.com/moltabellaglass/items/615008/item615008store.html)

The glass Figurines I have --almost have a *haunting* look to them because of the finish.  The more I look at them, the more I am falling in love with them.  I got the 2 of them for $100  which I think is a good deal, and I am (very) happy with that price as I know they were more before, as I saw them about 2 years ago in this Antique store and almost bought them then.  I decided to go see IF they were still there, and sure enough they were.  They were priced at $120 for the both and upon talking to the owner he is now selling his building (so stuff has to go).  I asked for the best price they could give, and they knocked off $20 -- so I took them.

I am so Glad  ;D they were still there !! :smg:

Anyways, anyone know if this is Iridato finish ?? , as I have found on the Net --- and IF older glass figurines have less detail in the face?

Thanks  :kissy:

Thanks, I think that too.....  :X:

Thanks for letting me know what Iridato meant too, as I just kept finding items with that......  :spls:  So whoops, did not know what it meant   LOL

I am going to try later to take some better pics -- as either my batteries were low, or the reflection from the black paper.....or maybe just the Luster off the glass  :24: caused my camera to Not take as clear of pics.  I think too they should be clearer, and sharper.  I will do that later to see IF I can get some better pics showing the detail better, and the detail other places.

I think my batteries were just low.  I find that when my camera batteries are low it does not do take good (or sharp pics).  It is not a real expensive camera.  I  will do it later on the Weekend....maybe in the sun

HI

These figurnes are known as HARLEQUIN figures and are modelled from the type of fashion worn by 17th century Venetian families.  Very very popular items as the workmanship involved in producing one single piece takes around 3 to 4 hours.
I hope this helps

Ciao

Hi there:

I took some *extra* pics outside in the sun -- and closer.  Does this help at all for any idea on the maker, or the year?

Whew, I got that off my chest (http://serve.mysmiley.net/party/party0033.gif) taking them outside, and Not stumbling with them.....

(http://serve.mysmiley.net/love/love0019.gif)      I must say they are very Lovely !!!!

Not sure IF this means anything at all......but I did note that in this link here (of figurines by Barbini)  [[   HERE   ]]  (http://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/barbini-murano-art-glass-dancer-and-musician-figu-6-c-f3c573e950) that the designs of the faces (or the absent of faces) is kinda like mine.

Mine have either glass dots for a nose, or one of the old age Beauty marks on the faces -- since they do not seen to be *right in the center* of the face for a nose.

Now I assume lots of glass makers might have used this type of faces, or the technique of no face, but that small pulled piece on the face -- but looking at lots of figurines (and their faces) .....these are the only figurines that I have found with a similar looking style of face.  So I know that means nothing because the roundness of the body of those.............looks nothing like the sharper flair designs in mine.

It was only the face or lack of face) with either only a nose, or a beauty mark that is similar to mine......so just throwing that out there  (http://serve.mysmiley.net/winking/winking0008.gif)

I am still *trying* to search for something like these -- and just tonight (been up all night) I stumbled upon these ones [  HERE ]  (http://www.alanmossny.com/store/furniture_item_detail.php?id=322984).   IMHO, I do see some resemblances.

Quoted from the above link:

1920s
Male and female glass figures by Martinuzzi for Venini, Italian circa 1925, signed.

Do you think that mine could be related to these at all?    What about your opinion here ?  Thanks
