well, you wouldn't catch me making silly comments and being immature, and anyway I don't have any dolls in my toy cupboard. ;) ;)
How about a liner of some description or a light shade for a small bulb or candle.         Why mention the Ruskin Centre Keith, is there some clue in that name? :)

Just thought I'd mention the Ruskin centre as I was there for the Glass festival today, the prices aarggh!,Anne is the closest so far,in a way, like the idea of a rolling pin Anik but it's thicker at one end and it might do funny things to your pastry! ;D ;D

I'm assuming my pm was wrong Keith, so is it a stand for displaying a fancy marble or something like that?

So is it something made from the neck of a wine bottle, Keith? (It looks awfully wine bottle like - having just bottled 3 gallons of wine, I'm all too familiar with them closeup!) Maybe a candle holder or a spirit/shot measure made from one?

To be honest Anne I'm not sure if it started life as the neck of a bottle,I should have asked him,he also makes these in crystal and various colours,in fact he said he was just finishing one for a client in California, would you like a clue or should I string you along ?

Does it have a hole through it, or does it hold something?

AAAaarh!

It struck me last night, just as I was dropping off that it's a bottle-neck for a guitar!  :'( too late.

Originally, it really was just the broken neck from a bottle that was used.

Yep,they were cut and polished bottle necks, this one was probably from a bottle but the bloke does make them to order, colours, sizes etc...a sideline from his main business of glass repairs,I'll have to start playing the old guitar again, fingers in the ears time! :o ;D ;D

If I wore one on each finger Keith, would I be able to play the piano? :D

(You don't have to answer that!) ;)

But if they are tapered and made to measure and in other colours, you might like to tell him that they would make lovely display stands for crystal spheres (gemstone type like I use the Dartington ring holders for) and would also display fancy marbles well too!

There see, I have doubled his sales overnight! :)

Can you play the piano? if yes then I don't think it would improve your technique and do you want a form a band called the 'GMB ers'
If I see him again I'll pass on your ideas ;D ;D

!.  Yes I can play the piano.
2. No I don't want to form a group.
3. Do tell him ~  it will help if he displays them with marbles or gem speres so people can see   how lovely they look.  True Crystal Therapists don't like their crystals put on plastic or metal holders they either use wood, rock crystal or glass.

2.Probably a good idea,I'm rubbish,
3.I will  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

!. But not very well.
2 Could have my arm twisted... (but then I wouldnt be able to play the piano.)
3 Good.

just to say Keith that I thought it was a very original and clever quiz question - I'd never have got the answer -  musically illiterate  -  so well done.

I align myself with Peter Hall on the business of piano-playing.  8)
He said he can play some Schubert sonatas for his own pleasure - but not for anybody else's!  ;D

That's about where I stand on the piano playing front as well Sue!!

It would seem there are a lot of us around... I was given a pair of headphones as a present, and I thought it was so I couldn't hear the din I was making, but it appears it was so nobody else can!!

That says it all!  :'(

I don't hear the din I make - I "hear" what I want to be playing in my head, a few milliseconds in advance of playing it. It really doesn't matter to me what noise comes out!
