Title: Hungarian Glass
Post by: catshome on March 30, 2007, 04:19:41 PM
I was in Covent Garden earlier this week and visited a gift shop with a large quantity of engraved cased glass cut to clear.  I asked to take some photographs but they said they had a website.  Sadly, the website is not very comprehensive, but it might be worth a visit to these 2 links to note what you might come across without their labels.

The 2 things that struck me most were the multi-faceted cutting to the stems of the hock glasses - seen here :

And the very contemporary cutting of the vases - one here :

Other vases had things like mermaids beautifully engraved into them.

Thanks for those links Cat.  :) Those glasses are a bit pricey, aren't they?  I just don't 'get' those coloured, engraved hock glasses - they don't appeal to me at all.  Maybe one of my grumpy Aunties had them and I'm doing a visual association or something!  The mermaid vase sounds lovely though.
