Title: Paul Ysart Paperweight
Post by: mhgcgolfclub on October 09, 2012, 04:53:40 PM
I bought this paperweight recently. I thought it was one of the nicest paperweights I had found this year.

Paul Ysart was not my first thought until I got home and did some research and believe it is Paul Ysart.

I was unsure if Paul Ysart used gold aventurine but found another one that did.

Measures 3" in diameter and weighs approx 520 gm

Glows a soft green under a uv light.

some reflections on pictures

Thanks Roy

Hi Roy

Paul Ysart, who was a fluent French speaker, used to travel to Paris in the 1930's to purchase supplies of colour and adventurine, so he was using it a long time ago !

Here is a weight from my collection that dates to this very early period and is possibly a trial for the Harlequin design that was  one of PY's bread and butter weights or maybe a test to see how the colours would work together. Plenty of Adventurine as you can see, and great Monart colours. The base shows Pauls typical knocking off marks.

Best regards

Derek

Thanks Derek

I did not notice the aventurine at first and when I did I did think Murano but very quickly could not find any of that quality (not saying that there are not any) and soon thought Paul Ysart because of the base and some of the canes.

Its the 3rd Paul Ysart I have found this year its now for sale and there is a link in the Glass Market Place.
