The pictured paperweight was bought by mum about 50 years ago. No mark or signature and no value, but would be interested in any ideas where it might be from.

Hi, welcome to the Board.
If possible, I would like to see some more photos of the weight.
1. A larger view of the top, looking straight down (larger image = more detail)
2. A view of the base, looking straight down, and with larger image
3. A view of the base, at an angle (to show some likley aspects that don't always show clearly with a straight on shot), also in larger size
For size please set the image as between 400 and 600 pixels wide.

I'll go for an Ysart Bros. weight. Kev may well tell me I am wrong, 'cos he knows more than me about these! But I think it is Scottish, and Ysart Bros/ Vasart in origin.

I'd have said Scottish - possibly Strathearn - on the basis of your photo. A photo of the base might be helpful.

Bigger picture might help,those twists look very similar to the Strathearn pieces I have but will await more enlightened members opinions,Keith.

I have been in email contact with "whitefriar", who has recently sent me further photos. With permission I have cropped and optimised the images and posted them below.
I initially agreed with Alan's thought that this is from "Ysart Brothers" (1946 to 1956) but I wanted to see some detail before confirming my agreement. Part of my email response to "whitefriar" was: There is a chance that the weight was made after 1956 but without checking with ultraviolet light (shortwave rather than standard longwave), it cannot be proven. However I think 98% likelihood of pre-1956 and therefore "Ysart Brothers" would be ok.
The overall look of the weight, the style and positioning of the millefiori canes, the amount of air bubbles in the clear glass and the "wreathing" (streaky lines swirling around the top part of the clear dome), all point towards the Ysart Brothers company.
This is a nice example of what was most likely daily production work from the Ysart Brothers works and the images below show the sort of regular millefiori that seems to have been quite typically used in those earlier years. The final photo is a section of the side view showing the "wreathing" in the clear glass, which can be a good clue for some Ysart Brothers weights.
