Title: SKLO TAS brick --- I'm sssooooo excited!!!!
Post by: Anik R on August 18, 2011, 10:02:44 AM
Hello!

I wanted to show off my SKLO TAS advertising brick, a piece I'm so pleased with!  Not only is it heavy, masculine and industrial, but it has everything to do with Czech glass.  It's perfect.

I'm a happy woman! (http://serve.mysmiley.net/party/party0010.gif) (http://www.celebrityfashionarchive.com)

It actually looks like a real insulating brick too - a double whammy!
I was about to write "very stylish" - then remembered John just said that... hmmmmmm...

exceptionally stylish!

Thank you John and Sue.  It weighs 1985g and does seem to be a 'real' insulating brick.   ;D ;D ;D

A nice thing Anik. The similar Sklo Union one in Newhall is described as a money box isn't it? I have to say I have not seen many sold so a scarce piece to pick up.... very nice!

I greatly appreciate the replies.  :kissy:

Both bricks (the sklo tas and sklo union) shown in Newhall's Sklo Union are described as money boxes.  My piece hasn't got a hole for coins... perhaps that makes it even more special? ;)   Either way, I'm feeling highly fortunate.(http://serve.mysmiley.net/happy/happy0029.gif) (http://www.mysmiley.net)

Great find, Anik. Please don't tell how much (little?) you paid for it. Now you can start building your house.

Aw David...  actually I paid a lot for it.  It's the second most expensive piece of glass I've ever bought, but I really, really wanted it:  http://www.glaskilian.de/A-SkloTas-Advertising-Glass-Br.425+B6YmFja1BJRD00MjUmTD0xJnByb2R1Y3RJRD0xNzA2MyZwaWRfcHJvZHVjdD00MjUmZGV0YWlsPQ__.0.html

Sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and open your wallet.  I hadn't really looked at the design on it closely before.Your husband likes it because it reminds him of you?

He HATES the piece.  If anything about it reminds him of me, it's probably the thickness and nothing else. :pb:

But I think it's a fantastic addition to my collection.  I've got no regrets.  :smg:

Where are you going to display it?

I have visions of it in one of those small windows you get at the top of bathroom doors, the kind that let light penetrate right through the house. You'd get to admire it from both sides!
But you'd need a few of them - I can imagine a collage of bricks all with different images.......

Lovely idea, Sue...  unfortunately, we don't have a window at the top of the bathroom door, and I don't think my husband would be particularly pleased if I asked him make a hole above the frame to accommodate a few glass bricks.

He wasn't particularly pleased when I asked him to devise a 'foot' for my brick with a light in it...   ::)

:hiclp: :hiclp: :hiclp:  Very Nice Anik!!

What does that figure out in CAD dollars, as I have no idea?  But a person *deserves* to treat themselves too :gfit: .

Nice find. I have about 50 of their current production http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,42068.0.html might be worth getting in touch with the factory and getting more information on their advertising pieces. Who knows they might even give you a more recent one  ;)  They would probably still have the plate inserts and panel moulds in store - would be nice to get pics of the insert to see how many designs were produced. Probably the main reason you do not see so many is that most will still be with the original owners and I doubt that they bothered to put coin slots in all of them. The assumption in ABI that they were all money boxes is  hard to accept! Rarity of glass under 50 years old is impossible to ascertain unless you know the actual production figures.
