Boldon Auctions recently listed a 1930s Chinese as a Clichy with a hefty estimate - and it was then withdrawn. But now someone has no doubt seen the auction house listing, and got excited about their cheap Chinese weight (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574631383&toolid=10001&campid=5336261829&customid=&icep_item=180728430483&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229508&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg). Shows how easy it is to propagate misunderstandings...
And if anyone really does think this is a Clichy, I would be willing to sell my magnum version for a lot less than £499.00! >:D

These are not Murano, I am sure. They are 100% Chinese. But there are some paperweight groups where accuracy is not the prime consideration, sadly...

I guess such groups cheer each other up and improve their collections. ::)

Exactly, Frank.
"Ignorance is bliss", "fool's paradise"...the existence of these and similar well known aphorisms shows it is not a new problem! The difficulties tend to arise when you come to sell your collection (or you executor does), and the truth about value is revealed (even if the correct attributions remain obscured).
